Celebrations at our Childcare

At City Impact Church Childcare & Preschool, we believe it’s important to help children appreciate and celebrate the many traditions that make our community special. By learning about different celebrations, children develop a sense of belonging, respect, and curiosity about the world around them.

Throughout the year, we mark significant events, giving children hands-on experiences that make learning meaningful. Here are some of the celebrations we focus on:

Easter
Easter is the most important celebration in our centre, as it represents the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This sacred time reminds us of God’s love, forgiveness, and the hope we have in Him.

At our centre, we teach children about Easter through:
1. Sharing the Easter story, focusing on Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection
2. Engaging in Bible lessons, songs, and discussions about God’s love
3. Creating cross and tomb-themed crafts that represent the significance of Easter

Easter is a time of great joy and gratitude, and we aim to instill in children an understanding of God’s grace and the true meaning of this season.

Anzac Day

ANZAC Day (April 25th) is a significant day in New Zealand, marking the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers who served in war. It’s a time to teach children about courage, remembrance, and gratitude.

To help young children understand ANZAC Day, we:
1. Create poppy crafts, discussing their meaning as a symbol of remembrance
2. Read child-friendly ANZAC stories, sharing real-life accounts in a way they can relate to
3. Bake ANZAC biscuits, talking about their history and connection to the soldiers

Through these simple yet meaningful activities, children begin to understand the values of peace, resilience, and respect.

Maori Language Week
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) is a special time to celebrate New Zealand’s indigenous language and culture. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to connect with te reo Māori.

During this week, we:
1. Learn simple Māori greetings and phrases
2. Create art inspired by Māori patterns
3. Play traditional Māori games, such as tī rākau (stick games)

By integrating te reo Māori into everyday learning, we help foster a lifelong connection to Aotearoa’s cultural identity

Christmas
Christmas is the joyous celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, our Saviour, and at our centre, we ensure that children understand the true meaning behind this season. Beyond the festivities, we focus on the love, hope, and peace that Jesus brings to the world.

We celebrate Christmas by:
1. Sharing the Nativity story, helping children understand the miraculous birth of Jesus
2. Singing Christmas carols and worship songs that glorify God
3. Creating crafts and decorations

Christmas is a time to reflect on God’s greatest gift to the world—His Son, Jesus Christ. Through our celebrations, we hope to instill in children a deep appreciation for faith, love, and the joy of giving.

At City Impact Church Childcare & Preschool, we believe every child’s background is worth celebrating. By making these and other cultural events meaningful and engaging, we create an environment where everyone belongs.
