Bringing the Bible to Life Through Play
At City Impact Church Childcare & Preschool, faith isn’t just something we talk about. It’s something we live and explore together through play, creativity, and daily routines. We believe that even the youngest children can begin to understand who God is and how much He loves them when biblical truths are woven into the rhythms of their day.
Here’s how we intentionally bring Scripture and biblical values to life through fun, hands-on experiences:
Mat Times With Meaning
Our daily mat times often centre around a Bible story. These aren’t always just read-and-listen moments. Children act out stories like Noah’s Ark, David and Goliath, or The Good Samaritan using costumes, puppets, and props. Teachers narrate while encouraging children to recall key messages, verses, and values. These sessions spark curiosity and connection.
Memory Verses Through Music
We use short, meaningful memory verses paired with actions and songs to help children learn and remember God’s Word. Movement and repetition make these truths stick, and the children love it. Verses like “Be kind to one another” or “God is with me” become part of their everyday language.
Purposeful Art & Craft
Craft time is a chance to get creative and grow in faith. We design projects that connect to Bible stories, like making a rainbow after hearing about God’s promise to Noah or crafting hearts when learning about God’s love. As they create, teachers share related scriptures and talk about the meanings behind them in simple, engaging ways.
Sensory Play with a Message
Sensory bins and tactile play are another way we explore the Bible. For example, we use sand, rocks, and water to tell the story of the wise and foolish builders. As children sift and play, teachers talk about the story and what it teaches us about building our lives on Jesus.
Role Play with Biblical Heroes
We encourage children to dress up and role-play characters like Daniel, Esther, or the Good Samaritan. These activities are fun and help build character too. As children play, we talk about virtues like courage, kindness, and faith, and how they can show those same qualities in their own lives.
Prayer Throughout the Day
Prayer is a natural part of our daily routine. We pause to thank God before meals, pray for friends who get hurt, or take a moment to talk to Jesus during transitions. Teachers model simple, heartfelt prayers that children can easily repeat or make their own.
Scripture in Everyday Language
We use simple Bible verses and biblical truths in our everyday interactions. You might hear us say, “Let’s be gentle like Jesus taught us” or “God made you special.” These moments help reinforce God’s love and guidance in a language children understand.
Nature & God’s Creation
Exploring the outdoors is another opportunity to teach about God. As we notice birds, flowers, or the changing weather, we talk about how God created everything and how we can care for His world. We introduce verses that reflect God’s creativity and provision.
Music & Movement
Our classrooms are filled with joyful sounds. We sing Christian songs that incorporate Bible verses and truths, using actions and movement to help children engage with the message. Worship becomes fun, memorable, and full of life.
A Foundation of Faith
These activities may seem simple, but they plant seeds of faith that can last a lifetime. We want every child in our care to know that they are deeply loved by God and that His Word is something we can live by. Whether it’s in the sandpit, on the mat, or while painting a masterpiece, there are always opportunities to grow in faith. By making Scripture a living part of our day, we’re not just teaching Bible stories. We’re helping children build a relationship with Jesus, right from the very start.
